Cali Cleaning Crew
February–July 2026
I went through why it failed on my podcast Taylor Made Thoughts (opens in a new tab): Business Failure - Why My Residential Cleaning Business Failed (opens in a new tab). The show is also on Apple Podcasts (opens in a new tab).
What it was
Cali Cleaning Crew was residential house cleaning. I wanted a scalable company with recurring revenue. I started it at the end of February 2026 and shut it down at the end of July.

Getting customers
Yelp worked. It produced customers, but at a cost that didn’t make economic sense. Other channels didn’t bring enough demand. I spent too much money testing marketing that didn’t work.
Why it failed
There was no real differentiation. To most customers, one residential cleaning company looked like another, so the market was driven by price and hard to market.
I ran it fully above board, with W-2 employees, workers’ comp, payroll taxes, and the other legitimate business expenses. I was competing with independent cleaners and informal operators who had much lower overhead. Recurring revenue alone wasn’t enough to make the model attractive.
The lesson
The lesson was recognizing when the economics don’t justify continuing.
